Mr. Juma B. Tupa

Mr. Juma Bendera Tupa is a Research Assistant with a National Institute for Medical Research at Tanga Centre. He received his Bachelor of General Science Degree in (BSc. Zoology and Botany) in November 2012 from the Open University of Tanzania and awarded upper second class. Prior to his bachelor degree, he obtained a certificate of Health Laboratory Technology from Ndanda Medical college in 2002. He joined NIMR Amani in April 2003 as a laboratory Assistant for five years (5). He shifted from NIMR Amani Hill to NIMR Tanga Centre in 2006, the centre is located adjacent to Tanga Regional Referral Hospital in Tanga region. He held the position of health laboratory Assistant for five years and then promoted to Senior Health Laboratory Technologist in 2015. He was recently recategorized as Research Assistant in 2021.

He is accredited as Level one Malaria Microscopist with the National Malaria control Program (NMCP) together with Ifakara Health Institute (IHI). The accreditation course was funded by Shinda Malaria and held at National Health Public Laboratory in Dar es Salaam from 19 to 23 December 2022. He has vast experience in Clinical trials through Therapeutic Efficacy studies (TES) of malaria conducted biannually in sentinel site located in Ujiji Kigoma and Igombe Mwanza. Also, he gained excellent experience in Malaria Microscopy teaching especially in the area of collection of sample, staining, parasite detection, parasite identification, parasite examination, counting and reporting of the results.
